Maui X Lolita (MxL) was founded in 2020 by mother and daughter duo of the same name, and born on the principle of creating bold, high-fashion pieces for “Fly Girls Only.” Coupling Lolita Malone’s two decades of design expertise with Maui Malone’s modern creative vision, the pair launched a one-of-a-kind luxury womenswear brand that reinvents classically feminine cuts through bold patterns and bright colors. MxL makes pieces “For Fly Girls Only”— those who dare to stand out from the crowd and command each room they walk in.
Lolita Malone has been a prominent figure in the fashion industry for over 20 years, with design experience in ready-to-wear pieces ranging from women’s suiting and dresses to swimwear and intimates. With her first ever design being her own high school prom dress, Lolita’s passion for making custom pieces followed her through her time at Morgan State University, where she first created nightlife fashions for herself and friends and put on showcases in collaboration with students at Howard University. After graduation, Lolita got her professional start creating bold fashions for exotic dancers and gentlemen’s clubs along the East Coast and beyond. She perfected her specialty in swim/resort-wear through her work in Miami, leading her to found now-archived Leonessa Swimwear and Maui Kai Swimwear until she partnered up with her daughter, Maui Malone, in 2020.
With creativity in her DNA, Maui Malone co-founded Maui X Lolita with her mother in 2020, driven to execute Lolita’s luxury ready-to-wear designs through captivating campaigns and showcases. As a Loyola Marymount University alum with a background in finance and a fresh Gen Z perspective, Maui took the lead on MxL’s marketing plan, generating ideas and developing a creative strategy to introduce The World of the Fly Girl.
